'ZRN Down for extended time

ZTNET, our host, has begun upgrading our server. As a result, the libraries that IceCast2 required are now gone. As a result, the software needs to be rebuilt. While the upgrade is welcomed, it came at a bad time where I do not have much free time. As a result, it will take me some time to get the network back up. No ETA is available but I hope to have everything back in order by the end of the July 2008.

As I think about it, this wouldn't be a bad time to reorganize the network, hire some new fresh talent in, etc. Perhaps this is a blessing in disquise, like the Y2K bug forcing companies to upgrade their computers.

Speaking of which, I am in talks with TSSZ in regards to a come-back to 'ZRN! More to come!

SEGA Games Radio is back!

Hey guys,

You read and saw correctly! SGR is now open for business! I officially opened the site last night but left the formalities till today because I was so tired!

http://sgr.soniccagedome.com

The main site has been moved from 'ZRN for SCD's servers for web administration reasons. There will still be a mini site on 'ZRN, this will appear in the coming weeks.

OK, lets talk new features!

Home Page!
The home page has a new flashy news section (not made with flash though! ). This feature is designed to bring the latest stuff at less than a click from your fingers. I should be updating this regularly.

Currently Playing Revamp!
The currently playing box is taken from the last version of SGR. However, this time I have added two things too it. The first is a quick link to other 'ZRN stations. This updates on a refresh with another station. The second addition is the 'Next Shows' box. This displays the next four shows coming up on SGR!

Downloads
This is a totally new addition to the SGR site. I am taken advantage of the Downloads section on SCD I recently set up. The SGR site takes all the downloads related to music (and remix music in the future) and adds it to the site. This section will also house recordings from shows in the future!

Reviews
Same as before on this front! Totally new section, using SCD's reviews section. This takes the latest OFFICIAL soundtrack review from SCD. However, I have added a few things that you don't get on SCD. If you go to the SGR site you will find a music player with all the tracks from the latest review, and a load of download links for things relating to the game!

Shows
The real deal here! What everyone wants to know about! Here is a list of the shows coming to SGR:

    * SoniCast is back! - Me and Ziz
    * Louis' Show of Awesomeness - Louis
    * Sonic's Tested - Sheza
    * Slingerland's One-Sided Talk Show - Slingerland

Another show I did not list there is T-Time! Some of you will have heard of this show before! For those who haven't it is a show native to SSR from a guy called T-Bird (the guy who BirdCon was about). He has offered to have mirror his shows on SGR from now on! He's a good mate of mine, and I am so happy T-Time is on SGR. There will also be a show from CodeNameGammer in the future!

Shows will not be starting straight away as I have to train the guys up. We will let you know when the shows will air!

All the shows will be getting a topic (like the current SoniCast one) in the SGR forums. So look out for some great discussions in there! If a show is going to on, or not, you will know here.

SGR is back and better than ever! Items like Downloads, Reviews, Shows, they all should be updates reguarly. When ever we do do something, we will tell ya!

DNS Issues

The domain name of Emulaionzone.org had expired. As a result, anyone trying to access this site or the audio streams would get an error saying the server could not be contacted.

ZTNET has addressed this problem and has just renewed the domain name. Our users may experience a temporary "blackout" period while the old DNS info expires and is updated with the correct information.

If you are able to get in but a buddy on a different ISP cannot, have them use "ftp.ztnet.com" as the sever address to access the audio streams until the correct info is updated.

This "period of inconvinence" may last as long as a few days for some, but may already be resolved for others. (It all depends on the DNS caching mechanism at your ISP.)

Sorry for any problems this may have caused.

Flywheel Radio Undergoes Major Changes

Vikingwoman, station operator of Flywheel Radio, has put the station through a major change in show format.

The FM channel, which was limited to a crappy playlist of a hundred or so songs has been replaced with an in-studio recording of her weekly radio show over at 103.3 FM.
WTMK Departs from ZRN

After being a member of the ‘ZRN for several years, Deezer (station operator of WTMk and TMK owner) has decided it was time to part ways. As a result, WTMK and its programming have moved to its own server. The new address can be found at the TMK website:

http://www.themushroomkingdom.net

WTMK joined ‘ZRN as an affiliate back in the days when Live365 would host stations for free. The station moved to ‘ZRN’s own servers after Live365 started to impose fees for all hosted stations. For a few years, ‘ZRN was the host of WTMK. Then, in late Oct, for an unspecified reason, Deezer decided to move his operations to a different machine.

At this time, WTMK and ‘ZRN will remain affiliates of one another. Deezer declined my repeated requests to continue to promote one another directly. Personally, I think his decision was foolish, given that WTMK would be the clear winner in such a system, but he has spoken. We wish WTMK the best of luck.

A link to WTMK will be made on the “Affiliate Listing” area of the site.

Migration Complete: All station back online

I am pleased to annouce that our "forced migration" to Icecast2/Ices 0.4 has been completed. All member stations are now online using the new software. In addition, all stations have been properly configured to conduct live programing. (*knocks on wood*)

Many cosmetic things still needs to be done, such as reporting listener counts, customizing text shown in the player, displaying thecurrent song title on webpages, etc. These will be hammered out over time. I also need to tackle numerous things behind the scenes. But for now, it's just good to see everything back in operation!

URGENT: DISASTER STRIKES

Good news: Disaster did not hit ZTNET or one of its servers
Bad news: Disaster struck my USB Memory card.

Every since I moved from my old apartment in late August, I’ve been “living” off of my USB memory stick. By living, I mean I’ve ran and stored data right on the USB memory card. As why not? I had a portable version of Thunderbird, Putty, Miranda and a slew of other applications that I needed. Since I am stuck with dial-up at home for the time being and since I was taking a class at a local university, keeping my personal data on a speedy USB thumb-drive meant no data synching, no uploading and download of files on an FTP server, etc. Things worked well…

Until today. For some stupid reason, when I doubled clicked on a local XML file via WinSCP, it decided to enter an infinite loop where it would:
- “download” the file (even though it was stored locally)
- try to open it in a web browser
- close the browser window
- redownload the file
- try to open it in IE once again,
- close the browser window
- … and repeat.

Since the XML file was on my USB memory stick, I figured “hey, just pull the thing out to make IE shut-up.” I did. Now my USB memory card, along with several months of email messages, personal files, and my course work, have been shot. (Thanks WinSCP.) Windows reports the USB memory stick as “not formatted” or “not accessible”. I’ve tried it on two separate computers to no avail.

So, what does this mean? It means that if you sent me an email message over the past week and I have not responded, please email me again. ZRN is fine since a copy of my work is kept on the server. I just need to redownload things.

In the mean time, if anyone knows of any good undelete applications or a program that will allow you to access a drive with corrupt data, please let me know. Remember, I have a USB thumb-drive, not a hard disk drive.

XML Help

Hey everyone. Now that we are moving over to Icecast2, the scripts that we used to use to parse data, such as determining the number of listeners, are now out of date. With Icecast2, parsing should be easier, now that everything is stored in XML "tree" format. If anyone has any experience in parsing XML files with PHP, please reply to this post. I'd like to get a quick crash course in this subject matter to return functionality to these scripts ASAP.

Stations returning online

I am pleased to report that a slew of member stations have been converted over to the new software configuration and are back online! In fact, the only stations that are not online using the new software are:

Sega Sonic Radio
Sega Games Radio
Radio Nintendo

The only reason why they are not up using the new format is because we need to further research how to mix live and automated programming with a station. (We can right now, but you won't be directed to it automatically if you connect... which stinks.) I may put-up a temporary solution for these stations in the mean time. (Just need to contact the station ops on what is acceptable in their eyes.)

EDIT
Information pertaining to the temporary change in the URL for each station has been removed. Leaving this up only confused people.

Continue to use the same URLs to connect to your favorate stations that you have used in the past. Only add a trailing "/ices" to the URL if you are looking for trouble.
END EDIT

Notice anything wrong? Contact NO CARRIER or post a responce to this thread. NOTE: A bunch of things are "broken" at this moment because many things need to be reworked. Regardless, feel free to task and I'll let you know if I can correct it quickly or not.

Wheew!
Status Report

Good news. We got Ices 0.4 to compile. Despite what the documentation says, the "optional" library of "liblame" is actually a "necessary" library needed to compile the tool. Once that was figured out, we were golden. Thanks to Zac for tracking that down.

Currently, only a "test" station is up using the new software. It can be heard at this URL:

http://ftp.emulationzone.org:26100/ices

It only plays a short loop of Sonic <del>1</del> 2 tunes, but it serves as a "proof of concept". In the mean time, I hope to relaunch a few stations using the new software by sometime tonight. These will most likely be those stations that don't host live programming. (Mixing live and automated programming with ICecast2 will take some time to remaster.)

Server reconfiguration required

My attempts to get IceS to run correctly with newer SHOUT.LIb libraries has failed. As a result, 'ZRN will need to be redone from the ground up so it will be designed for Icecast2 and Ices 0.4 instead of Icecast 1.3 and IceS 0.2.3. I've tried to postpone such a move for as long as I can because the effort required, but it has become apparent that this delema can't be avoided forever.

So, what does this mean? Its means we will not be streaming automated programming until we make the upgrade. How long will that be? A week? A month? Longer?? Hard to say. I need to read-up on Icecast 2 and Ices 0.4 (the latter will be the move troublesome... I can feel it.) If all goes smooth, perhaps sometime next week we can resume restore most of our services. There is a ton of backend stuff that needs to be rewritten and that will take time. (Hense why I avoided such a move for so long.) In the mean time, station operators can stream live shows to their stations. (At least that capability still works!)

We appologize for the down time and hope to resume operations soon.

Stations partically up...again

Sorry that we've been having troubles for almost a whole week now, but we're finally moving a step forward in the right direction. Basically all the config files work differently on our new server, so it 'only' took us a week to work it out. We'd like to thank NO_CARRIER for spending a lot of time working on this.
However, over the course of the next few days, you won't have 24:7 music on any station. This is because Ices is still not functioning properly. That aside, DJ's can now connect happily to their stations and host their scheduled live shows.
If any station admins have any issues connecting warn NO_CARRIER straight away.

-Phil

SSR: Summer of Sonic LiVECAST Special CANCELLED

It appears that while I was well in the land of nod and the Summer of Sonic SSR special was going on, the ZRN apparently went down about an hour in, knocking off the show with it. The reasons for this are still being investigated, but unfortunately the special has been cancelled, and will not be rescheduled in its current format. I understand there are plans for a replacement show (or shows), so keep your eyes and ears set on SSR for further details. Apologies for the inconvenience; it probably couldn't have come at a worse time for both you and us.

The server has had some funky intermittent outages all day on Thursday. As a result, people could not only access the website, but they could not access any stations either.

Let's hope it clears out on Friday. Everything appears to be up as I write this post.

UPDATE:
All ZTNET servers (web server, radio, etc.) were up the entire time. The main router at the ISP where ZTNET houses it's machines started acting up. Same thing happened earlier this year.
SSR: Summer Of Sonic/15th Anniversary Special: Get Ready...

Hey there. Hawkz would probably be posting this but his account got nuked, so I'm throwing this up instead. As you might be aware from the site banner, Sonic's 15th anniversary and the upcoming Summer of Sonic initiative are both standing in the way between us and the end of June. As part of our contribution to the biggest bash yet seen in the community, starting Friday at 4pm UK time (11am US Eastern, 1am Saturday AEST), SSR's special 15th Anniversary Weekend kicks off...

And what a cracker of a start it is, with a four-hour LiVECAST featuring Hawkz and Roarey Raccoon on the day of the anniversary, celebrating "15 years of speed" in style. With any luck, they'll be able to get Dreadknux on the line too (c'mon, we all know how much you miss him! (-: ) They'll be playing the best tracks of the past 15 years, culminating in a "15-year countdown" at the end of the show. It's one LiVECAST you won't want to miss...!

And that's only just the start, with our LiVECASTs continuing over the weekend, culminating with the Aussie Monday block, where I'll be chipping in with my contribution to the celebrations.

So, finally Sonic can start acting his age, and you guys and gals can join in the party. It all starts on June 23rd - that's just one week away, believe it or not! Mark it in your diaries now...

Update: The time has officially been changed, as you can see, it is now 4pm UK time - after Falc's show, I believe.

SSR: If show downloads aren't working...

You might have noticed that the show downloads aren't working in the LiVECASTs section of the SSR site at the moment. It seems the directory structure of FastFeet Media's FTP service (which we use for the show archives) has been changed a bit without us being told, which means that all the links have changed. However, it took a bit longer, and other stations have beaten us to the punch. On the other hand, the 'homepage' is now a 'splash page' for the new site!

SGR will also be hosting Sonic Cage Dome again in 2 weeks time, LiVECasting a STH3 tournament, headed up by me!

Also, look out for the Emerald Guardian Hour from Timper.
SSR: Five Hundred More Reasons To Like SSR:FM

G'day there. If you've been a keen flicker between the FM and AM channels of SEGASonic Radio, you would have noticed that the variety of games that were played on the FM stream was a lot narrower than on AM - only about half the AM playlist, in fact. Well, here's more reasons to tune into our premier stream, because all that has changed...

I've added a HUGE update to SSR:FM over the weekend, with more than 500 new tracks on board for your listening pleasure - or more than 16 hours' worth. So not only do you now have music from the classics in better quality, but also the newest titles from 2005 and 2006, such as Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Rush and Sonic Riders.

With this big bump for SSR:FM, and with our new SSR LiVECAST season continuing to gather steam - leading up to the big "Sonic 15th anniversary" weekend two weeks from now - I can be confident that SSR is able to continue to cater to your evolving Sonical music tastes. So, tuck in now - I'm sure you'll like what you find. (-:

Update: False start. :? Methinks the ID3v2 tags are causing a small amount of havoc again, because it's crashed twice in the past 10 hours or so since the update. I was warned about this. So, back to the old playlist for now. Re-upload shouldn't take more than a day. Stay tuned for further updates.

Update #2: Re-upload complete; the new playlist is back on. Hopefully there should be few bumps in the road from here on in. If it goes down again let me know.

The new Radio Nintendo Layout is here!

So it's finally here, the new Radio Nintendo website!! Whaddya think of it? Take a look by clicking here. I made some obvious changes. One is getting rid of the long menu. Half of the stuff didn't have a meaning. Hopefully all you need are the butons up top.
However, if you have suggestions then feel free to email me at greenyoshi att theodl d0tt com and I'll respond to you as soon as I have time.
As for now, there ARE still some minor bugs that need fixing, like the listener count up top. Hey, the last site wasn't 'coded' by me. Sure the graphics were mine, but this time this is MY coding (the majority anyway...), my first to be out of all PHP actually.
So that's all I have to say for now but like I said. If you have ANYTHING to comment on about this new look you can email me OR just click the comment button and I'll read it. As for now, I have GCSE exams to get back to . :?
-Phil

Huge Remix Radio Update

The playlists for Remix Radio's AM and FM stations have been updated. The FM playlist has been updated with the latest tunes from OCRemix. The AM playlist, on the other hand, has received a huge update.

To be honest, while the FM playlist was kept up to date and fresh, its AM counterpart was pretty much neglected, only receiving very minor updates. In fact, the AM library of remix tunes has not had a real update since when Jarel Jones retired from the station back in 2003!

Well, all of that has changed, for the AM library of Remix tunes has been infused with hundreds of missing OCRemix tunes, along with a few hundred tunes from other sources. I doubt you will recognize the playlist today, so tune in for a treat!

SSR: New management, new site, new LiVECAST season...

G'day, Spiky here letting you know about a few changes afoot here at SEGASonic Radio. Firstly, as you may or may not know, there's a new team running the station - Hawkz and myself - taking over from FastFeet and SpawnofSonic before him (thanks guys for your effort). We're gradually starting to get things moving again SSR-wise - and as you can see, we have a fresh look to things as a result...

If you take a look at the SSR new site, you'll notice has been given a face-lift for starters, and a number of new features have been added - the first of which you might be seeing now: integration between the news system and the 'Zone Radio Network forum - so you can discuss the updates to SSR right here (obviously you'll need an account to post with, but once you're done with that, you can fire away.) Another is the ability to view the SSR LiVECAST schedules in a time closer to you - either UK time, US Eastern time, or Australian Eastern time. Show downloads are now also available from the site, through our FTP service from fellow TSS network members FastFeet Media.

Last but by no means least, this site upgrade is also to coincide with our brand new LiVECAST season, which will liven up what has admittedly been a rather thin LiVECAST block for the first part of this year. You might have caught up with some of the new guys (including myself and offsider Hawkz) on-air already; the rest I expect to start up within the next couple of weeks, if they haven't already. They're positively raring to go, so make them welcome as they come on-air - they'll definitely welcome your support.

Despite all the changes, there's one thing that hasn't changed - we're still the station playing 15 years of pure Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Team music for you all, and that's one thing that won't be changing.

So... here's to a new era eh. Enjoy it.

SRPGA Download Issue Corrected

I had been made aware that some files of the Super RPG Adventure website could not be downloaded. The problem was due to a web server restriction that restricts files greater than 10 megabytes to be downloaded off the server.

To get around this limitation, I've split the large files into managable 9 MB chunks using "The File Splitter". A tiny program has also been included to combine the files into the original file.

If you experience any other difficulty downloading the files form that page, please let me know ASAP. Thanks goes out to Arjak for alerting me of the delema and to Marc Bjorklund, creator of File Splitter.
Working With Music Document Released

A year ago, the 'ZRN staff and I work begin working on a document that would capture out best practices in terms on creating, preparing and encoding music for use on 'ZRN. School got in way and I never got time to peice together the document.

Today, I finally pieced everything together. The result is the first ever edition of 'ZRN's "Working With Music" document. Topics covered include:

- how to best record from an audio source.
- CD ripping
- audio format conversion
- ID3 tagging
- volume normalization
- encoding
- live broadcasting
- ... and much more.

If you thinking about starting your internet radio station or are a music enthusist looking for some great info, then check out this document.

This document can be found on the "Internet Radio Newbee Guides" page under "Other Areas" menu up top.

Everything is now back up.

-----------

All 'ZRN stations are down at the moment. An ETA of their return is unknown because the server which they run off of is down and inaccessable. More news to come when I receive it.

This marks the four period of major downtime in the past month after experiencing only minor disruptions over the past several years.
SGR; Update!

First of all, congrats, SGR has now become the station for SEGA 'Produced' Games Radio. Thats right, I have ended the polls, and that was the result. From now the playlists are going to be gathered! Got any SEGA produced favourites? Please suggest!

Second, SGR has linked up with The Sonic City network (TSC). SGR now has a section over on their forum. TSC is currently being revamped and new sites added to network constantly. This will be a great fan base addition to SGR.

Third, that is all for now. Look out, because I am planning a 'Grand Opening' of the new SGR. Finished site, playlists and the first LiveCast! This should be in the next month or so.

Talk to you guys soon!

Super RPG Adventure Released!

After many years of procrastination, ‘ZRN is proud to announce the re-release of SUPER RPG Adventure. Originally released in 2002, this audio play by Johnny Wallbank (of STjr fame) takes a humorous look at the RPG genre. In this play, Bob, the protagonist, must overcome the evil wrath of the evil emperor, Lord Gitbucket, whose acquisition of “IT” threatens the current balance of power in the kingdom.

If you think fighting monsters and solving puzzles are the only challenges that await Bob, then you are wrong! Annoying characters, poorly translated dialog, plot holes, GameShark-ateers, and painfully long full motion video clips and just some of the challenges that await Bob.

Will Bob be able to stop Lord Gitbucket in time? What is “IT”? Why is the villain so evil? Download and listen in to the exciting audio trilogy to find out! I am confident that you will enjoy this comedy, so confident in fact, that I once dumped a girl because she refused to listen to it. True story! (Or did she dump me because I like this kind of stuff, I don’t remember.)

The cast of players includes VGMusic station operator Jarel Jones and former Blazefire Radio station operator Blazefire.

You can access the site here http://radio.emulationzone.org/sections/srpga or by accessing it from the menu up top, under “Audibles / Super RPG Adventure".

FYI:
In Jan of 2004, I obtained permission from Johnny Wallbank to release this trilogy on ‘ZRN. It was to be released shortly thereafter, but I never found the time to do it right until now.

Site News

A few things to report

1) Menubar Update - The menu bar at the top of most 'ZRN-related areas has been modified. The changes are based on feedback that has come in over the past year.

2) New sections - With the release of the new menu bar, I finally released some new sections on 'ZRN.

The first is the "audibles" section, which contain sites that have, well, audio files for you to listen to. Content ranges from original music scores to audio plays. You'll find some the old favorites in here, namely the "Stallman Lecture" and "VGMQ", along with some new one: A^5 and , the TSSZ|SEven New archives. SRPGA is still in development.

Also released is the "other" section, which contains area that don't necessarily fall into a certain category. You'll find some the "Upcoming Program" listing in here, along with some new pages, namely iCEPiCK, the Internet Radio Newbee Guide and a Links section. The later two are still in development.

New Template Colors for the Forums

When we installed the new forums back in 2005, the forum admin at the time was suppose to convert the default skin to match that of 'ZRN. Unfortunately, this request was far more time consuming than anyone of us realized at the time. Simple put, the 'ZRN "master template" is designed differently from phpBB2. Trying to port one over to the other would be extremely time consuming. and would require a lot of work to ensure the new layout fit the 'ZRN template scheme. As a result, the forum layout has been in a "half finished" state for over a year.

So today, I personally tried to port things over but gave up after quikly re-realizing how time consuming it would be. (Not only that, I figured I could spend my time more wisely doing other things on 'ZRN.)

So instead of spending two days editing every little feature of phpBB's template, I've downloaded and installed the "Zed" template skin from phpBB.com. (This template came to the closest to 'ZRN's scheme.) Some minor adjustments were made to it and it was then released. I also made it the default skin on 'ZRN so all users (current and new) will be able to use it instead of the sloppy one currently in place.

Check it out and let me know what you think. I realize that it's not a "perfect fit" of 'ZRN's layout, but I personally think it will do nicely.

SGR Playlists

Soon the new playlists for SGR are going to be produced, so I have just added a new page to the SGR website; http://radio.emulationzone.org/chan1/playlists.php. On this page there is a form, with which suggestions for the new playlists can be made. Any suggestion (considering it is a valid one) will be added to the playlist <As well as the persons name being mentioned, if they like>. What makes a suggestion valid? There have been discussions about this, for example, why I have put a picture of Super Street Fighter characters on the site when it is not SEGA. Therefore, with this post there is a poll! The same poll is going to be added to the SGR site; 'Should the music played on SGR be limited to SEGA produced games. After adding the votes from the polls together, the majority will get their way.

mike_taylor

p.s.
SGRS Takeover - Hello

Hey guys,

I'm Mike Taylor, and as you have just heard I am the new station operator of SGRS. However, the name of the station has now changed from SGRS (Service Games Radio Station), to SGR (SEGA Games Radio).

The station is having a complete over-haul, and this has started with the name, and now has moved to the site. The new format of the site can now be viewed, and is going to be tweaked with until we feel it is sufficient.http://http://radio.emulationzone.org/chan1/

Just like Eclipse, I am new to this. This is my first go at running online radio, so comments good or bad are much appriciated.

Look out for the new site, new playlists, and finally new live shows on SGR.

mike_taylor

Station Changes / Additions

There is a lot of news to report on this front, so I’ll discuss them by station in order of their channel number:

Chan 1 - SGRS Takeover
Due to lack of time, (and perhaps interest,) the old station operators have been removed and Mike Taylor has taken over. The station has been on life support ever since Darkwolf, the original station operator, retired a few years back. Mike, a member of the Sonic “Scene”, should be able to inject new life to this station. First order of business for him: correct the station website, which is have good, half “yuk!” :-) Also, the name of the station has changed to "SEGA Games Radio".

Chan 3 - Radio Nintendo Changes
Ethan Allen, a co-operator of “Radio Nintendo” and head of “theodl.com” has vanished from his post! As a result, GreenYoshi, the other co-operator, has been promoted to station operator of Radio Nintendo. GreenYoshi has made a commitment to not only promote Radio Nintendo on “theodl.com”, (which he now runs,) but states that he will now do a regularly scheduled live radio show on the station. Should be exciting.

Chan 4 Reborn as X3|Radio
As many of you may recall, Tristan of TSSZ used to run our anime / talk station on ‘ZRN. He resigned from the post for personal reasons. Since his departure, the station has been idle… until now. ‘ZRN is proud to announce the formation of a new anime / talk station entitled “X3|Radio”. This new and improved station will be run by Eclipse, a staff member over at www.x3gen.com. We feel that Eclipse will be able to reintroduce this popular genre on ‘ZRN.

Chan 8 – Flywheel Radio
To better promote it’s pending affiliation with the “Flywheel” performing arts space in Easthampton, MA, Channel 8 will now be called “Flywheel Radio”.

WRMX To Undergo Some Changes

Hopefully by the end of the weekend, WRMX: Remix Radio, will receive a MAJOR update. What I will be doing is converting the station around so it only plays remixes that are a certain age, like 6 months. This will keep the station's content fresh and less repetitive. (As if the 1,000 song playlist was not longer enough. )

I also hope to fix the website after Jarel Jones messed it up by mistake. (You thought I won't notice, did you? )

Working Hard to Spam

Ok, some people are REALLY working hard to send me spam. Someone actually took the time to go to the post a private message containing spam. Funny thing is, the message is not in English but in some unicode-compatible language. One would think that if a site is in English, the guy running it would speak English as well. Here's the message:

Message: °¢ÀïÊг¡ÊÇÈ«Çò×î´óµÄÍøÉÏóÒ×Êг¡£¬ÕâÀïÓÐÎÒÃÇΪÄú¾«Ñ¡µÄ¹©Ó¦ÐÅÏ¢¡¢ÐÐÒµ×ÊѶ¡¢ ¼Û¸ñÐÐÇé¡¢Õ¹»áÐÅÏ¢µÈ£¬ÏÖÔÚÂíÉÏÃâ·Ñ×¢²á³ÉΪ»áÔ±£¬°Í°ÍÂú×ãÄãËùÓеÄÂòÂôÐèÇ󣡱±Ôó·§ÃÅ×øÂäÔÚÈ˽ܵØÁ飬 ÓÐÁù³¯¹Å¶¼Ö®³ÆµÄÄϾ©¡£

Ironically, over at EmuLinks.com, we receive messages from spammers who submit "spam" by submitting links that contain an ad or some offer that I can care less about. It probably took the guy a minute to submit such spam message and only a sec for me to delete it. (Ok, I laugh at the message for 5 seconds, so 6 sec total.)

Just a general comment: why would someone buy medication from some back ally pharmacy other the net? We know the medication is fake, and may even kill. If I want cheap drugs, I'll do what everyone else does: go to Canada. Afterall, would you trust a guy by the name of Mr. "phfoshsdg" who can't spell the medication that he is selling?

Jennifer of RPG Radio and Rockman Radio fame announced to me some time ago that she would like to hand over Rockman Radio to someone interested in running the station.

As you may know, Rockman Radio was founded by Mutant Midget, who successfully ran the station for a few years. Jennifer told over operations in 2005 and aided in the most recent transformation of the station, which consisted of a new layout and the introduction of an FM station!

Due to lack of time, Jennifer would like to hand off control to someone with the time to give the station the attention it deserves.

If you or someone you know would be interested in running the station, please visit the following link.
"CF Radio" Signs Off For Good

I have learned that CF Radio (formally tssz|2, B/W Radio, & WEMU) will not be returning to the airwaves. Andrew Chantler, station operator of the Live365-based station, informed me that he simply lost interest in the station.

When 'ZRN was first established in 1999 or 2000, our first station was a Live365-based station named "WEMU". At the time, Live365.com gave away free Internet radio hosting with 365 Megs of free diskspace!

We later moved to a locally run solution first consisting of Shoutcast and later Icecast so we could be independent of Live365's control. It turned out to be a good decision because Live365 abandoned free hosting after some time.

WEMU was passed between many hands, starting with NO CARRIER, then Tristan of TSSZ fame, and later Andy Chantler. A.C. took over the station after Tristan’s ambitious project to expand tssz into a huge media organization.

When TSSZ announced that they would be halting operators, A.C. said he would continue the station under the new name, CF Radio. However, computer problems both at home and at Live365, a monthly fee of $10-$20, and a lack of interest in running the station lead to the ultimate demise of the station.

We at 'ZRN wish Andy Chantler the best of luck with his future endeavors.

For example, two listeners on SSR’s FM station have sucked-up all 15 listen slots on the station due to multple connects from Xaudio.

From this point forward, XAudio is banned from our servers until further notice.
NEW 'ZRN Unvailed

After a year of on and off planning, tinkering and designing, we at ‘ZRN are proud to unveil the NEW ‘ZRN! Over the past few months, we incorporated a slew of changes, modifications, and enhancements.
The most obvious change is the new layout scheme for ‘ZRN. It’s more stylish, more functional, and just flat out cool looking!

Other changes include a new message board, new station websites, new site features and high quality streaming options. Believe it or not, there are other new features and changes that will find their way on the network in the coming months, if not sooner. So stayed tuned!

I'd like to thank OcRemix and GameKast.com for inspiring our new layout scheme!
